Home of the colossal temples of Angkor Wat - Cambodia

Cambodia also Kampuchea, officially the Kingdom of Cambodia, is a country located in the southern portion of the Indochinese Peninsula in Southeast Asia, spanning an area of 181,035 square kilometres (69,898 square miles), bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the north, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. The capital and largest city is Phnom Penh.

Cambodia's landscape is characterised by a low-lying central plain that is surrounded by uplands and low mountains and includes the Tonle Sap (Great Lake) and the upper reaches of the Mekong River delta. Extending outward from this central region are transitional plains, thinly forested and rising to elevations of about 650 feet (200 metres) above sea level.

Cambodia's climate, like that of the rest of Southeast Asia, is dominated by monsoons, which are known as tropical wet and dry because of the distinctly marked seasonal differences.

Best time to visit Cambodia

The best time to visit Cambodia if you want cooler dry weather is November to February. This avoids both hot season and wet season.
Wet season is from June to November. Typically rainfall occurs in the afternoon or at night so it is fairly easy to plan around. Rainfall can be very heavy but it rarely rains for long periods of time. An afternoon shower lasting an hour or two which always starts and ends at around the same time is fairly easy to factor into your schedule.

On the flip side the least pleasant time to be exploring the country is June, July and August which is both hot season and wet season. Not only is there high temperatures and periodic rainfall but the humidity tends to be high all day which can be stifling.

Best places to visit in cambodia

Angkor: Encompassed by wetland rice paddies and dense jungles, it emerges from the canopy in a medley of historic Khmer towers and enchanting erstwhile Hindu shrines. Today, it’s the chants of Buddhist monks and gasping travelers that dominates, as they weave between the intricate base reliefs and the great sandstone sculptures of mythic beasts.

Sihanoukville: A remarkable place of tin-roofed hostels and bamboo beer bars spilling onto the sands, it oozes a laid-back vibe that’s a welcome break from the country’s other urban centers.

Phnom Penh: Phnom Penh is a city in flux: a place where barrios of haphazard shack homes mingle with gilded temples of gold leaf and straight-laced highways of the 21st century. The piece de resistance is surely the opulent Royal Palace complex, which shimmers with the spires of the Silver Pagoda at its center.

Siem Reap: It’s true that most people flock to Siem Reap to hop across to the UNESCO wonder of Angkor Wat. However, thanks largely to the influx of folk coming in recent decades, Cambodia’s fastest growing city has developed into a fine place to visit in its own right.

Kampot: Located on a river not too far from the Gulf of Thailand, the quaint town of Kampot is famous for its uniquely flavored black peppercorns. The famous Cambodian dish of Kampot pepper crab was born here, and a visit to the Crab Market serves up an authentic taste. You can watch the women wade into the sea to haul in the crab baskets before being served the freshest dish in the Kingdom.

Mondulkiri: Asian elephants stalk the fields and bushlands of far-flung Mondulkiri Province; water buffalo and timber longhouses ring the wetlands and peaks of forest-clad rock rise to meet the border with Vietnam. This eastern jewel is a far cry from the sun-scorched lands and steamy tropical climes that dominate the rest of the country and is slowly becoming famed for its second-to-none elephant conservation project.

Battambang: The city does not have either beautiful beaches or majestic Angkor temples. However, it is Cambodia's second-largest city, in which exists the perfect balance of bustle, friendliness, and hidden interests to explore. Tourists coming to Battambang are interested in a means of transportation called Norris or Bamboo Train. Battambang will be the best place to visit in Cambodia for those who love to explore new things.

Kratie: Kratie is relatively strange for new travelers because there are not many tourist spots here. However, if you are fed up with Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Royal Palace, then Kratie will be your destination with many interesting things to discover.
The best spot to watch the dolphins is Kampi village, 15 km north from Kratie. As river dolphins, these animals don't generally approach boats and show curiosity towards tourist boats like some marine dolphins do.

Banlung: Banlung is the upcoming great Cambodia tourist attraction. Located in the North of Cambodia, Banlung is an ideal destination for those who want to be immersed in nature and enjoy outdoor activities. Coming here, you will experience expeditions through the forest, admiring wild and exotic animals. Besides, you will discover Yeak Laom volcanic lake, a lake created from an inactive crater and has beautiful surroundings.
